  the cutesy assassination overload continues, the world stays the same, the organisation has a little bit of a shakeup, and the desserts remain as delicious, rich in calories and pricey as the last time round. this time is an extension of last time with added syrup and yuri material, and this time a healthy dose of yaoi sprinkled all throughout as well — and let's not forget that straight relationships happen to be sweet if given enough love as well. this time round the block, everyone's much more comfortable in their shoes & these kids mahiro and chisato are much more confident in their skills at deflecting adult issues (because nine times out of ten, they're absolutely horrible at managing expenses…

  Ah, the Baby Assassins—to know them is to love them. Two years after their debut film from writer/director Yugo Sakamoto, our favorite hitgirls are back in a sequel that follows an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' philosophy. Meaning this largely adheres to the blueprint of the first movie: 90 minutes of our two slacker girls engaging in cute and mostly amusing hijinks, followed by a 10-minute barnburner of an action sequence, roll credits.

  Our favorite assassin duo are on suspension from the guild for losing their temper and uhh… handling something off duty. Because of this, the majority of Baby Assassins 2 is spent with Chisato and Mahiro trying to work regular jobs so they can buy food, and leans a little more into the comedy side of things than the action side, whereas I would say the first film was the opposite. For me at least, some of that comedy was a little culturally difficult to understand (that’s coming from someone that regularly watches anime). I didn’t catch many of the references. Especially the ones referring to specific people that I’m sure are well known in Japan.

  Mehr Gelaber, mehr Trägheit, mehr Trockenwitz, mehr Kampfklasse. Selbst mit Bedenkzeit kann ich noch nicht wirklich sagen, ob mir nun Teil 1 oder 2 besser gefällt. Denn die Fortsetzung macht gerne mal nicht viel mehr, als die etablierte Formel zu vermehren, Szenen noch etwas länger auszuspielen oder eben das Ganze mit zwei männlichen Gegenstücken zu praktizieren. So hat Teil 2 für mich schon ein paar minimale Längen und Überreizungen.

  Aber die Idee, Chisato und Mahiro zwei ähnlich eigenartige Jungs gegenüber zu stellen und damit ihr Auftragskiller-Arbeitnehmerverhältnis zu gefährden, fühlt sich nie wie ein schlichter Aufguss des Vorgängers an und bringt schon viel Unterhaltsames mit sich.   Narrative - 63/100 | I said the first one had no real narrative but this one goes one step further. The girls are mainly just talking and arguing, because this time they're forbidden from killing. So not much happens. So it ends up just being boring because we know they can't kill, which is what gave the first movie a delightfully unpredictable inclination. The duo of guys are also the worst assassins I've ever seen. At least a dozen times they had the perfect opportunity to kill and yet……
